Women play an active role in day to day survival of the Belsar communities but unfortunately their contribution to the farming sector remains unnoticed. They bear the double burden of work for the farm and for the house hold. The women of the village are dropout or illiterate and they do not have any other skill than farming. Lack of alternative income generating opportunities in the poor communities reduces the opportunity cost of labour to the point where they continue to be employed within the farms in spite of very limited returns.
